You know the tags on yer venus post, i see no mentions of pregnancy, what did you mean with your tags?
Answer:
Some people in the tags were saying that they’d heard they are self portraits of pregnant women. I’ve also heard this and I think some archaeologist speculated it but it just makes no sense imo. Here’s a link to an article about it. The idea is that a pregnant person, looking down, would see themselves in those sorts of proportions. But that doesn’t really make sense imo cos they would likely have seen other pregnant ppl. And also people are like “it’s an unrealistic body type!” When it’s really not and also that doesn’t mean much even if it was; people make art with varying proportions anyway.

LGBT activists have been vocal about intersex issues for several decades, because establishing the legal right to bodily autonomy for intersex persons is basically inseparable from establishing the right of trans persons to that same legal autonomy over their own bodies. many intersex persons prefer not to be grouped together with LGBT causes; however, the vast majority of LGBT activists would agree that performing “corrective” surgery on intersex infants - to force them to adhere to a largely fictional gender binary - is pretty fucking evil.

When I was 18, I discovered I wasn’t like other girls. My medical records read “male pseudo-hermaphrodite 46 XY” & other BS terminology that pathologized my healthy/beautiful intersex body.
I discovered then that I had been diagnosed with partial androgen insensitivity syndrome (PAIS); my XY body couldn’t fully utilize androgens (like T) and so I developed mostly like a typical female person externally.
For me, this meant I had a somewhat “ambiguous” looking body (aka a non-binary body) and the doctors performed 3 unnecessary cosmetic surgeries to make me look more like a “normal girl”

(kitchen knife emoji) vaginoplastyNot to mention, they lied to me about All Of This and then forced me to take Premarin (a low does of estrogen made from extracting the hormone from a pregnant mare’s urine (horse face emoji, crying face emoji)
Anyways, I got in touch with a new endocrinologist recently thanks to my therapist at @/ RuchMedical who suggested I see him.
He did something no other doctor had ever done. He asked me if he could see my medical records, all of them, and then took time to read of them.
He even reached out to other experts in his field when he was confused by something.
Wow, We love humility in medicine.
Anyways, he ended up suspecting something is up and that perhaps my PAIS diagnosis is wrong.
He then orders me a genetic (dna emoji) test. Thanks to covid it took almost half a year to get the results, but a month or so ago I got them back.
Turns out, I don’t have PAIS. I actually have something else known as NR-5A1. Now this is big news mostly because 1. It supports my thesis that docs who deal with intersex kids don’t know shit…
And 2. P/AIS intersex folks are believed to not be able to utilize androgens and wo we’re often only given estrogen (never T), forcibly “feminized” with fucked up “cosmetic” surgeries, and forcibly assigned female.
Doing what they did to me was fucked up enough, but now realizing that they didn’t even have the diagnosis right—and that I *can* utilize androgens—is fucking infuriated beyond belief.
We need to #EndIntersexSurgery y'all like yesterday. /End IDs]

very funny to imagine the prehistoric women depicted in “venus figurines” being told they are “morbidly obese” by modern physicians. listen to me neolithic matriarch. you are fat. hunting wild game and knapping flint axes and walking 4 miles a day is not enough exercise. you have prediabetes and need to eat under 1500kcal or you will die. tsk tsk. your sleep hygiene is bad. you look at the fire too much at bedtime

You know what, fuck it, I don’t *want* some frivolous, artisanal, lighter-than-air computer with no customizability, no upgradeability, no reparability, no ports, and a lifetime of *maybe* 3 years if you’re lucky. I want a fucking great BEAST of a computer that’s designed to last a minimum of 50 years, with ports up the wazoo and optional drives for every kind of media! I want modular components that you can drop in a bog for a year, dry them off, and have them still work fine! I want them to make a noise like “ker-chunk!” when you slide them into place! I want a switch that you pull to turn it on! And I don’t want software that constantly forces you to get a pointless, cosmetic “upgrade” every few months either! I want durability! I want longevity! I want satisfying haptics! I want Silicon Valley to go fuck itself!

Guys.
Y’all.
I…
I just. I just… i have discovered something. And I have laughed too much. I have laughed every time I have tried to explain it to someone. I cannot get through this.
Look. Okay.
There are two things you need to know, here.
First: There’s a style of Greek pottery that was popular during the Hellenic period, for which most of the surviving examples are from southern Italy. We call them ‘fish plates’ because, well, they’re plates, and they’re decorated with fish (and other marine life).
Like this one, currently in the Met:
Or this one, currently in the Cleveland Museum of Art:
They’re very cool. We’re not 100% sure what they were for, because most of the surviving ones were found as grave goods, but that’s a different post.
The second thing you need to know is that when we (Classics/archaeology/whatever as a discipline) have a collection of artefacts, like vases, sculptures, paintings, etc. and we do not know the name of the artist, but we’re pretty sure one artist made X, Y and Z artefacts, we come up with a name for that artist. There are a whole bunch of things that could be the source for the name, e.g. where we found most of their work (The Dipylon Master) or the potter with whom they worked (the Amasis Painter), a favourite theme (The Athena Painter), the Museum that ended up with the most famous thing they did (The Berlin Painter) or a notable aspect of their style. Like, say, The Eyebrow Painter.
Guess what kind of pottery the Eyebrow Painter made?

I need to obtain a small articulated doll I can Take Places cos I’ve got a Barbie and Zooey Electra, both of whom are fab but too large to take around with me. It’d be good to get something that can stand on its own too. I really like Penny’s box antu dreamlike tea party centaurs however I don’t like the idea of doing a blind box that’d be at least £18… plus idk if a bjd would be durable enough for me to take around with me.
